Class Descriptions

BALLET:
The art of Ballet is the foundation for all other dance forms.  Ballet classes develop grace, poise, balance and much needed self confidence.  Our ballet program at Strut, USA is designed to educate and develop each dancer to the best of their personal ability, while actually having a wonderful time.

We give professional consideration to the age and experience of our students in order to place them in class accordingly.  Thus, each child may not be in classes with those that are all their same age.  Instead, we work to keep each student in the class that will both challenge and reward their skill and talent.

JAZZ:  Students are introduced to jazz techniques, choreography, body conditioning and much more in our exciting and fun jazz dance classes.  Students need to be 5 years of age or older to participate in this class.  Ballet class is highly recommended to supplement jazz classes for technique, alignment, etc.

TAP:  Tap dance teaches rhythm, timing, tap technique, and balance using very up tempo music from all genres.  Tap classes a Strut, USA cover a wide range of tap technique from the basic shuffle ball change to advanced pull backs and wings! (and everything in between!) Tap dance has been brought back strong with the musicals like "Billy Elliott" and amazing young dancers like Savion Glover.

PRE POINTE: This is the first class in your dance training that is designed specifically to get you "on your toes".  Dancers are selected by ability to be placed in this class.  During barre, dancers are allowed to wear pointe shoes but not during center floor.  Years of training and age are considered also in class selections.

POINTE: This is the most advanced form of ballet and for sake of health and safety, is limited to the most advanced student.  This class is selected entirely by teacher recommendation.

CONTEMPORARY/LYRICAL: This is an innovative and imaginative dance form with a strong ballet base. The style is used to interpret lyrics and feelings as presented in the piece of music.  Class is generally geared to ages 15 and older.  For students ages 9-14, Lyrical will be covered from time to time in their ballet and jazz classes.

BATON TWIRLING:  In baton twirling classes at Strut, USA, our students learn much more than basic baton twirling skills, such as marching, character dance, rhythm, modeling poise and hand to eye co-ordination.  And that’s just for starters!  Baton twirling students will be responsible for their own baton.  We sell them here at Strut, USA and cost is $25.  Attire for baton class is shorts and tank or leotard, tennis shoes or jazz shoes.  Track pants or jazz pants are acceptable.  No skirts, jeans, sandals or flip-flops are to be worn in class.  Hair must be out of eyes.  Rings and other jewelry are strongly discouraged.

KINDERDANZ:  This program is custom designed to guarantee our energetic and loveable  pre-schoolers an hour of learning FUN!  Each class contains Pre-Ballet, Tap for Tots and Tumbling.  KinderDanz is unique from regular dance programs because each class is designed specifically for this age group.  All music is age appropriate and fun!  Other teaching tools including worksheets, hand outs, etc. are sent home periodically to bring those at home into what your star is learning.

Musical Theater: Musical Theatre is open to all students regardless of background or experience.  This class focuses on learning and performing Broadway style song and dance numbers. In Musical Theatre, students will learn the following:
Proper vocal technique including breathing, posture, and diction
  Basic choreography
  Performance technique (expression, movement, energy)
  Basic music reading and notation
There will be performance opportunities with this group, so students should be comfortable singing and dancing in front of an audience!
Private Voice: Private Voice lessons are suggested for advanced vocal students or for students who have completed at least one year of Class Voice. Private lessons consist of more intensive one-on-one vocal study and practice.  Private Voice students will learn the following:
Proper vocal technique including breathing, posture, and diction
  Vocal health
  Performance skills
  Singing in foreign languages
  Understanding and identifying musical styles
Private voice students are expected to practice daily, and will be given practice sheets to be turned in at the beginning of each weekly lesson.

Class Voice:  is offered for beginning voice students as a prerequisite to Private Voice lessons.  It is a useful tool in preparing beginners for one-on-one lessons.  Many beginning voice students feel shy or uncomfortable singing by themselves.  Class Voice serves not only as group instruction, but as an easy transition to private lessons. In Class Voice, students will learn the following:
Proper vocal technique including breathing, posture, and diction
Basic music reading and notation skills
  Notes on the piano keyboard
  Performance technique and etiquette
  Vocal health
Class Voice is suggested for, but not limited to beginning voice students.  Any age or skill level student is encouraged to take Class Voice!
